Hurricanes Looking to trade
Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford continues his attempts to trade one of his veteran defensemen in exchange for an attacking forward.
"At this point we run the risk of another one or two injuries, and then we don't have the depth up front to continue," Rutherford told CarolinaHurricanes.com. "We feel that we do have some defensemen in the minors that can be called up if necessary, so with eight defensemen here we continue to look at possibilities to add another forward."
Various reports suggest the Hurricanes have been discussing a deal with the Boston Bruins in exchange for forward Peter Schaefer.
Anton Babchuk and Josef Melichar have been healthy scratches for each of the team's first three games, while it's believed the team has been actively shopping Frantisek Kaberle and Joe Corvo.

Leafs looking to trade White?
With a surplus of defensemen on the roster, the Maple Leafs appear to be shopping Ian White around the league, reports the Toronto Sun.
White, 24, has yet to play a game this season and he isn't sure when he'll be called upon.
"No, there's been no dialogue and no indications as to what the plans are for me," White told the Sun. "I haven't said a word and they haven't said a word to me since I've been here. So I have no idea."
White's heard his name mentioned in trade speculation, but he's trying not to ignore it.
"I'll just let the chips fall where they may," he said.

Capitals looking to shed salary?
The Washington Capitals are sitting dangerously close to the $56.7 million salary cap, which has prompted speculation that the team is looking to make a trade.
According to the Ottawa Sun, Capitals GM George McPhee is trying to make moves in an attempt to shed some salary.
The Sun claims the Capitals are shopping center Michael Nylander, who is making $5.5 million this year.
However, Nylander has a no-trade clause and told reporters at the start of training camp that he has zero intentions of waiving it and accept a move.
The Capitals could try to move Viktor Kozlov and his $2.5 million salary, or defenseman Tom Poti ($3.5 million).

Kings not done securing future
With Anze Kopitar locked up to a brand new seven-year contract, Los Angeles Kings GM Dean Lombardi will now focus on some of the team's other players.
"This agreement [with Kopitar] is another critical step forward in our building process, and it also demonstrates to our fans our organization's commitment to building the right way," Lombardi said. "However, we are not done. There is still more work to do, on and off the ice."
Defenseman Jack Johnson and forward Ted Purcell are set to become restricted free agents next summer, and the Kings are expected to begin talks with them over a new deal.
Johnson, 21, scored three goals and added eight assists in 72 games with the Kings last season and played in the NHL YoungStars Game at the 2008 NHL All-Star Game.

Gaborik on the trading block
Im back srry for the delay there wasnt much hapening now there are many stories out there.
Marian Gaborik's tenure in Minnesota appears to be coming to an end.
An unnamed NHL team executive told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that Wild GM Doug Risebrough has been actively shopping the 26-year-old sniper around the league.
In fact, the team official indicated that talks are so in depth, that the Wild offered Gaborik to his team in a trade over the weekend, a deal he said he was not interested in.
Gaborik can become an unrestricted free agent next summer and has rejected multiple contract extension offers from the Wild, believed to be valued around $8.5 million per season.
The Star-Tribune claims the Wild and Gaborik's agent, Ron Salcer, have not spoke in two weeks.
Negotiations have stalled, and the two sides haven't spoken in two weeks -- something Risebrough and agent Ron Salcer confirmed over the weekend.
Risebrough, who will attend the GM meetings in Chicago this Thursday, has had trade discussions with the Montreal Canadiens and the Los Angeles Kings, the paper reports.
The Wild is reportedly interested in Canadiens top prospect Ryan McDonagh, drafted 12th overall in 2007, and would want an established player as part of any deal.
Blair Mackasey, the Wild Director of Pro Scouting, has attended Montreal's last two games.
The Star-Tribune notes, however, that any team interest in Gaborik would want to talk to his agent before consummating any deal

Roloson being shopped?
With three goalies between the pipes in Edmonton, rumors are starting to circulate over Dwayne Roloson's future with the Oilers.
Roloson recently told the local media that he's comfortable with his role and understands the Oilers' present position. The team cannot send Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers to the minors without having to first clear waivers, a risk the Oilers are not willing to take.
With most of the NHL's general managers in Chicago this week for the league's GM meetings, the Oilers started Dwayne Roloson on Wednesday in what appears to be a showcase.
While there's no guarantee that the Oilers will trade him, it's believed they are trying to.
The Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers are reportedly shopping for some goaltending help, according to TSN.
